Nollywood actor Leo Mezie needs $130, 000 for kidney transplant, cries to Ambode
NOLLYWOOD actor Leo Mezie who is down with kidney ailment needs a minimum of 70, 000 pounds for a kidney transplant.
ONNLive crew visited him at an Allen Avenue, Ikeja-Lagos hospital where he is undergoing dialysis last week and met him in a sorry state. He was shaking from head to toe as a result of an infection he revealed he got some days back. “I had an infection,” he said through clenched teeth.
Tubes with running fluid were connected to the lower part of his body covered by the dialysis centre’s blanket. There was no chair by his bedside so the two reporters had to stand close so as to hear him speak because his voice was weak and thin. “I come here twice a week and I must confess it has stretched my finances to the limit. Donations by friends, colleagues, family and fans have been expended on my weekly dialysis, that is why I believe God that Gov Ambode (Lagos State Governor) will heed my cry and come to my aid,” he said as he sighed deeply.
Mezie said he had through a top journalist friend, established contact with Ambode’s Commissioner for Information & Strategy, Steve Ayorinde and Habib Aruna, his Press Secretary. “They (Ayorinde and Aruna) requested to see the medical report and the UK hospital fee and requirements. I have released the information, so I want to also use this medium to also appeal to Gov Ambode; the UK hospital is asking for 70, 000 pounds; that should be around $130, 000, for the transplant. This is exclusive of air fare as well as accommodation and other expenses.
The actor who was diagnosed with a damaged kidney about two months ago also thanked former Niger Delta militant leader, Chief Ateke Tom who he said has been of immense help, financially, since he began dialysis.
