FOUNDATION Begins Training Of 200 Youths In Skills Acquisition

A Non-Governmental Organisation, Foundation for Effective Leadership and Development (FELD) in its renewed vigor to boost the economic capacity of people at the grassroots in Anioma has commenced the first phase of training 200 youths on skills acquisition. The training programme which is in partnership with development partners will be conducted in different part of the country and will last for one year.

The Chairman of the foundation, Hon. Paul Adingwupu flagging of the programme, drawn from four local government areas of Aniocha/Oshimili federal constituency, Delta State, revealed that the one year in-house boarding training programme commenced with the first batch of 20 youths, and covers different area of skills acquisition in agriculture such as; fishery and animal husbandry, crop production, agro-forestry and beekeeping, agricultural engineering (operating/repairs) and farm management. Other areas include food processing, tie-dye, liquid soap and antiseptic, bleach, shea butter, coconut oil, smoked fish, pastries and tomatoes preservation and packaging.

Adingwupu stated that the objective is to strengthen the human capital potential of the youths at the grassroots and to ensure the economic stabilization of rural communities. “It is expected that at end of the training, beneficiaries will become skills proficient in their chosen field and will be given support in form of starter packs and stipend to start up their various trade”, Hon. Adingwupu enthused.

Similarly, the foundation, working in partnership with international universities and global education funding institutions has announced the 2018/2019 overseas scholarships for outstanding graduates with a first class or upper second class bachelors degree with good “grade point average (GPA) of 3.8 or above in Nigeria to study for Masters Degree at the American College of Greece. The scholarships being offered is for Masters in Business Administration, and the programme will cover full tuition, accommodation and living expenses.

We are delighted that the foundation is making a positive impact on the lives of people, which is in line with its mission, said FELD foundation Chairman. He, however, decries the rising rate of hunger, unemployment and degrading values in our society, leading to low morale and low self-esteem. Adingwupu however, enjoined all to get involved in the governance of their communities and so they can participate in the decision of who governs them, as a sure way to secure their future and that of their children.
