GTB, OGUN PRINCIPAL CUP: Commissioner Warns Against Use Of Mercenacies

            Towards preparation for Season six of the GTbank-Ogun State Principals Cup, the State Government says it will not hesitate to sanction Principals or Schools that engages the use of mercenaries during the competition.

             State Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Mr. Afolabi Afuape, who made this known in a statement made available to the spoksman of the Ministry, Mr, Adeniyi Akinbobola, during a stakeholders meeting at the Conference Room of Ministry of Youth and Sports, said before the commencement of the game, committee comprising staff of Ministries of Youth and Sports, Education Science and Technology and All Nigeria Conference of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS), Ogun State Chapter, would be set up for proper selections of the teams.

            He said the purpose for organizing such competition, was to discovered talents that would made the state and the nation proud in the future, adding that, for the objective not to be defeated, any principal or school found to be involved in age cheat, impersonation or the use of mercenaries, would not be allow to participate in the competition for two years.

            “Age cheat, impersonation and use of mercenaries can be very disturbing and it is an issue that is affecting sport development, particularly the round leather ball game, which has eating deep into our National Teams. To eradicate or reduce to the minimum, it must start from this kind of competition, in order not to defeat the beautiful purpose of the game, as it is purposely for talents discovery, for future purposes”, Afuape said.

            He said the State would ensure that any talent discovered during the competition, would be nurtured and monitored, to enable him make either the under 17 or 21 of the national team in the future.
