AMOSUN Rewards Adesokan With N5m For Outsanding Performance

FOR clinching the position of the best Africa Badminton Player, Miss. Dorcas Adesokan, an indigene of Ogun State, Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, of Ogun State, has rewarded her with the sum of N5 million to boost her career and further encouraged her to continue to make the state proud and the country at large.

Presenting the cheque at the State Ministry of Youth and Sports Conference Room, MKO Abiola International Stadium in Abeokuta,

Amosun who was repres ented by the State Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Mr. Afolabi Afuape in a Statement made available to the spokesman of the Ministry, Mr, Adeniyi Akinbobola, said the achievement should not go unrecognized, adding that for any athletes to survived, such athletes need a constant flow of income, which he said was the reason behind the automatic employment given to her in December, 2017 by the Governor.

He said the gesture was also to prepare Adesokan for the upcoming 2020 Olympic and other International competition, adding that the State would not rest on its owes as it would continue to discover more talents, monitored and nurtured them to stardom.

“Presently Adesokan is the best badminton player in Africa, and I want to encourage other athletes to emulate and follow her footstep even as the present administration led by Senator Ibikunle Amosun will continue to support outstanding athletes who have gone all out to make the State proud. Beyond that, we at the Ministry of Youth and Sports in collaboration with the State Sports Council will continue to discover more talents, monitor and nurture them to stardom” Amosun said”.

Appreciating the State Governor for the gesture, Miss. Dorcas Adesokan, said the state sports Council and the Ministry of Youth and Sports has always been supportive in monitoring and nurturing her to this level, promising that the money would be used for the purpose it was been given, adding that it’s a great booster towards her preparation for the 2020 Olympic.

“ I will like to appreciate the Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, the State Commissioner for Sports, the Director, Sports Council and in particular my coach for being able to discover me on time, also for their effort in tracking and monitoring my progress. This money will be a great booster to my career and towards the preparation for the upcoming 2020 Olympic” Adesokan said

Also speaking the Head Coach of Badminton in the State, who doubles has Adesokan Coach, Mr. Adewale Olasunkanmi, said she has been so consistence, coolheaded and hardworking player who is very focus in all she does, saying that the automatic employment given to her by the Governor was the best thing that has happened to her and that would further encouraged her to do more for the State.

While appreciating the State Governor for the 5 Million naira support, Olasunkanmi urged other athletes representing the state in one sporting activities or the other to be up and doing, focus as well as emulates the outstanding performance of Adesokan.

Before now, Dorcas Adesokan has played in Kenya International Series 2013, where she won a gold and a bronze medals, Benne Republic competition with 2 gold medal and bronze, All African Senior Championship (South African 2017), where she got three bronze medals and also at the 1st Mutual Assurance National Badminton Championship (Lagos 2017), with two Gold medals.
