AHEAD of the forth coming 2019 general election in the country a group-“the Owerri, Okigwe, Orlu Zones Great Alliance” has warned major stakeholders in the state to respect “the charter of Equity” which rotates the governorship seat among the three zones of Owerri, Okigwe, and Orlu invariably known as Imo East, Imo North and Imo West.
The group which goes by the motto “Unity of Purpose, equity and justice has also warned that a disruption of the political arrangement on primordial sentiment and clannish interest might generate bad blood among the three senatorial districts with Imo East(Owerri) being the worst victim.
In an address at a one day summit christened :Imo Redemption Equity summit 2018 which had the theme “standing with God as he redeems our land” held at the premises of the All Saints Anglican Cathedral Egbu, the president of the Alliance Amajuoyi Chukwuemeka (Ekang) said that the mandate of the group is “divine and aimed at articulating and addressing the issue of Equity considering the rights of Owerri zone.
The alliance, he said has no interest in any governorship aspirant neither is it sponsored by any group, government or individual “The great alliance definitely shall support a God fearing candidate who God, by his grace shall reveal to us through the fervent prayers of our watchmen and intercessors”.
Amajuoyi- an engineer warned that it is no more business as usual where morality and spirituality means nothing any more in government and in the electoral process saying “by our mandate from God, the Alliance stands for equity, fairness, justice, truthfulness, oriented-leadership, a leadership that is obedient to the will of God”.
Insisting that leadership must heed the call of conscience, redemption, expansion and unity which he argued are the ways to achieving development, Amajuoyi said “we must find new ways to speak for equity, justice and fair play in our polity and if we do not act, we shall surely be dragged down the long dark and shameful corridors of time reserved for those who possess power without compassion, might without morality and strength without foresight.
Mike Iheboro- secretary of the group described it as a mass movement which believes in equity, justice and fairness with membership drawn from the various political parties.
“We believe in the common good of Imo State and nobody owes it or finances it hence we are not sold to anybody but independent to forge a new Imo State.
Relying on the theme of the summit “standing with God as he redeems our land”. Rev. Israel Ukor reminded all that all powers belong to God.
