PREMIER Music Hails Suspension Of COSON’S Licence

THE management of Premier Music Publishing Company Limited, the organisation which prides itself as the oldest recording company in Nigeria with largest repertoire on the Copyright Society Of Nigeria (COSON), says it welcomes the suspension of the operating licence of the society by the National Copyright Commission (NCC).

In a press release issued in Lagos yesterday and signed by Mr. Michael Odiong and titled “The suspension Of Approval For COSON To Operate As A Collective Management Organisation: Premier Music Publishing Company LTD Statement”, the company said, “We are in tandem with the actions of the Copyright Commission so as to stop the hemorrhaging of the Society’s funds on legal and media expenses. Funds, which rightly belong to artists and right owners.”

It also narrated all it had done in the past to quell the leadership crisis which has now led to the intervention of NCC by withdrawing the licence it issued to COSON seven years ago.

Below is the unedited version of the statement.
