Court Verdict: Chris Mba May Shut Down Nigerian Breweries Plc
UNLESS Nigeria’s brewing giant, pays ‘Baby Don’ Cry’ singer, Mr. Chris Mba, ther strong indications that the singer is poised to do battle with the the company and its premium product, Star Lager beer over the company’s nonchalance concerning payment of judgment debt and interest emanating from a 17-year-old suit which on March 16, 2018 was decided in favour of the singer.
Recall that Chris Mba was in 2000 horsewhipped when he went to have a discussion with Awilo Logomba, the star act of NB Plc’s Star Mega Jam staged at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu, through which he sustained serious eye injury.
He subsequently pressed charges against NB PLC in 2001 at the High Court sitting in Enugu which returned verdict in his favour, prompting the the beer manufacturer to appeal the judgment.
The matter dragged for 17 years and g concluded at the Court of Appeal, Enugu Judicial Division, before Justices Helen Morenkeji Ogunwumiju, Tom Shaibu Yakubu and Misitura Modere Bolaji Yusuf, on March 16, 2018, had Chris triumph with award of N3, 478, 718. ,50 against NB PLC. .
Due to foot-dragging by NB PLC in settling the said debt, Chris Mba’s counsel, Prof. Zephyrinus Chukwue hukwuemeka Anyogu, wrote to the company’s lawyer, Uche Ihediwa Esqr. asking him to advise his client to release the money including another =N5, 426, 800. 68 representing accrued interest since judgment; debt for six years at ten percent per annum.
Failure to accede to the request, wrote Prof. Anyogu, there will be involvement of the bailiffs into “the arena to resolve the issue .
