HOW Reggae King Ras Kimono Died
THE Copyright Society Of Nigeria, COSON has described the death of one of Nigeria and Africa’s frontline reggae musician, Ras Kimono as a big blow to the music industry.
Kimono was a board member of COSON.
In a bulk SMS message, the copyright body said: “COSON deeply regrets to announce the passing on of a frontline member of our board, great African musician, the reggae toaster, the great Ras Kimono Onwubuya.”
He was the undisputed king of the Nigerian reggae music scene in the late 80s through the 90s before he relocated to the US for some years. He came back to Nigeria about a decade ago and continued from where he stopped but not on the same big stage anymore.
Details of his death are still sketchy as at press time but a close source revealed he was ill briefly.
Ras Kimono who hailed from Delta State clocked 60 years recently.
