REACHING The People With 05 Initiative Foundation
By Charles Okogene, ONNLive
AS her husband continues to deliver in his Prosperity to Deltans, as contained in the S.M.A.R.T Agenda promise he made to the electorate, in all areas of human endeavour including roads construction, reconstruction and rehabilitation and checkmating of the usual flooding of Asaba, the state capital, she has also taken it upon herself to put a perpetual smile on the faces of all that resides in the state irrespective of tribe, religion, and political affiliation.
That, exactly is what the wife of Delta State Governor, Dr. Sen. Ifeanyi Okowa, Edith, has done and still doing with 05 Initiative Foundation, her pet project which came into being about four years ago. Like her husband’s policies and programmes which have been felt positively by all in the state, 05 Initiative, within the short period it has existed, has become a household name, no thanks to its many positive life changing and novel programmes that have blown across the three senatorial districts of the state and in all the ethnic nations.
With able and capable hands on deck to drive the Foundation’s vision that includes but not limited to changing our world and every effort the founder have made in life, is driven by this desire.
In the foundation’s vision statement, the delectable wife of the governor showed her heart of human kindness with the inscriptions, “I am not particular about men or women.
“I am particular about humanity in general.
“I will do things that will make Deltans happy.
“I will affect the lives of the down trodden.
“I will give hope to the hopeless,
“I will shelter the homeless. I will feed the hungry.”
These, the Foundation has been able to achieve in its less than four years of existence with its life changing programmes, the last of which was the flag off of 05 Initiative Grass-root Medical Outreach in Bomadi on May 14, 2018 and other far flung areas of the state. At the programme that lasted for three days, the medical needs of rural folks were addressed as the governor’s wife was seen disturbing medical eye-glasses, free, to the needy.
“Once I was blind, now I can see” was the chorus of everyone when the 05 Initiative berthed in Agbor with its ‘Post-Operation Visit at Agbor Central Hospital by 05 Initiative’ on May 7 2018. Same was the story when it took its free medical journey to Agbor Prison and in the process, effected the release of one Chinedu Offor, as documented by Albert Ograka in a story titled “Divine Providence: Dame Edith Okowa Effected The Release of an Inmate.”
The story alleged that Offor who hails from Aniocha North Local Government Area was unjustly arrested and imprisoned when he came from Abuja to visit his family in his village.
Offor alleged that his resistance to his father’s arrest by the police landed him in the prison house and moved by the story, and in her usual humanitarian gesture, Dame Okowa, founder of the 05 Initiative sought to find out the truth from the prison officials who corroborated the story and thereby made fruitful efforts to ensure his immediate release.
The Foundation, through its medical outreach in various parts of the state, has made people happier, put a permanent smile on their faces, provided them with ‘bread on their table,’ gave them hope where they thought there was none and all these are irrespective of where they come from, the religion them belong to, their political affiliation as long as they are domiciled in the state.
Such has been the sweet tale of 05 Initiative Foundation throughout the length and breath of the state that even babies have also drank the milk of her human kindness when she presented gifts to Kosisochukwu Purity Igudia, baby of the year.
Under its clothing the naked programme, “O5 Initiative: Clothing the naked,” and in line with its vision of giving hope to the hopeless, the Foundation has also visited selected schools across the state to clothe indigent students. Presented cash and Christmas provisions to local government representatives and also celebrated Orphans Day in Asaba.
The Foundation’s concern at seeing the seamless management of the complications usually suffered by sickle cell patients has seen it inaugurate sickle cell centres across the state including that of Issele-Uku, the headquarters of Aniocha North Local Government.
Indigents patients at Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Asaba have also benefited from its World Charity Day celebration
